Jordan Peele's Us is one of my favourite movies ever. It freaked me out so much from the background audio alone that I had to turn it off and come back in the morning. One of my favourites for commentary too
raw and titane aren’t going to leave my mind anytime soon! i’m not super into anything too violent, but i like psychological thrillers or classic horror. i do think psycho lives up to the hype and there’s an audrey hepburn film called “wait until dark” that’s good! (i also just love audrey) what do you think about more campy horror? rocky horror picture show and death becomes her are two of my favorite movies
omg i still haven’t watched any of the classics, psycho and the exorcist have been on my list for years, maybe this will be the year i finally watch them.
i love audrey too! wait until dark sounds like my cup of tea. i’ll be watching.
now, about campy horror, i haven’t watched much but i def want to get more into it. do u have any recs apart from rocky?
death becomes her is probably at the top of my recommendation list! it's one of my mom's favorite movies and she's really into, like, over-the-top satirical stuff. the original beetlejuice is also pretty campy, so is heathers. a lot of the 80s horror is!
I love so many of your suggestions, Luisa. How great was Titane? Were you also an R. L. Stine fan as a kid? Because The Fear Street was such a treat for me!!!
By the way, I'm curious, what's been your favorite horror film of 2024? So far, nothing has trumped I Saw the TV Glow for me.
i can’t say i was an r.l stine fan growing up but i do love fear street, they’re such a fun watch.
my favorite of the year is probably the substance or lisa frankenstein. i can’t say i was a dan of i saw the tv glow, i think i went it with a lot of expectations and that ruined the experience for me.
I love horror so much!!! I’m always happy to see others give it a chance. Even schlocky horror movies are often fascinating in what they say about the culture that produced them.
It’s not very lady focused but I would recommend The Thing. The original one. The film-making is incredible.
Also Alien vs Predator occupies a very weird place in my heart. The main girl develops a very interesting relationship with one of the Predators.
Lost Boys is perfect 80s fun, Annihilation is incredible (book and movie), and It Follows is a take on the death by sex trope in horror.
Also Trick r Treat is always a Halloween rewatch for me.
We're so connected (or maybe it's just October dawning on us), I've been thinking about horror a lot lately. It's by far my favorite genre, even though I took a long break from it. I love that you enjoy it so much and articulate it so well - it's one of the best mediums to tell stories and convey a message in the most unconventional ways. I'm really proud that I’ve seen most of the movies you listed—would love to know what you're planning to watch next!! xx
me encantó la adaptación de iwtv (2022) y tengo pendiente raw, que he visto muchos artículos hablando sobre lo incómoda y fascinante que es. enamorada del género, gracias por estas recomendaciones ♡
I am a new horror lover too!! I am taking this class right now called mothers, lovers, and monsters-where we are dissecting the roles female characters fall into in modern horror films. I just saw the substance too and it was AMAZING. My jaw was permanently on the floor the last 30 minutes of the film. I have always been into movies, but I think I misinterpreted the whole genre. I agree that it is the most interesting. I love having all the taboos and things that don't fit with dominant ideology of our society be portrayed within this medium. I love it
hi! I also love horror! and since you’ve written about women and girls in the genre — have you seen either black christmas (1974) or house (1977)? two all-time favorites
it’s about a girl who visits her aunt after her dad remarries (and her friends come along) — it’s really amazing and based on this piece I think you might like it!
lisa frankenstein (instant classic), practical magic (an all-time favorite), the witch (my fave anya-taylor joy movie), midnight mass (brilliant, genius, perfect), yellowjackets (LOVE), bones and all (so beautiful and dark it makes me SICK), and US (so scary, i still have nightmares)

It’s his best film!! I love everything about it, and lupita was so f good on it too. I might re watch it soon
i love warm bodies like this is the movie on our on when i just meet someone and will determine if i like them based on their reaction
had to create a new "movies to watch" list in my phone after reading this 💘
I’m obsessed with the substance! I’m not sure where to watch but I’d recommend a girl walks home alone at night
i've been wanting to watch some horror movies (despite me being incredibly scared), and this was the perfect introduction! thank you <3

i’ve heard black christmas is phenomenal so it’s on my watchlist for october but i haven’t heard of house before
it’s about a girl who visits her aunt after her dad remarries (and her friends come along) — it’s really amazing and based on this piece I think you might like it!
that sounds great! on my watchlist it goes then
i love this!! so many of my favorite movies and shows in here <3
omg, which ones have you watched?
lisa frankenstein (instant classic), practical magic (an all-time favorite), the witch (my fave anya-taylor joy movie), midnight mass (brilliant, genius, perfect), yellowjackets (LOVE), bones and all (so beautiful and dark it makes me SICK), and US (so scary, i still have nightmares)
this is why we’re like this 🤞🏼🤞🏼
Great read. I am Horrorhound myself, I blame my dad for taking me to see Jaws and using me as a shield when it came to the scary parts. Ha!
But yeah, Jaws, The Thing, The Fog, Alien? Classics.
All versions of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
Moody ones like Don't Look Now.
Gialli like Deep Red or The Fifth Cord.
1970s oddballs like Tourist Trap.
And you already mentioned When Evil Lurks. If you haven't, check out Terrified by the same director. So darn good!
Highly recommend Brand New Cherry Flavor on Netflix
